Forest density reduction to minimize the vulnerability of Norway spruce and silver fir to extreme drought – a risk assessment (Sumforest – ForRISK)

The overall purpose of this project is to examine the interacting effects of drought and tree population density on plasticity and resilience of tree growth, and ecophysiological mechanisms. The project will capitalize on Norway spruce and silver fir stands in Central Europe. The outcomes of this research will be integrated into a risk assessment to provide a framework for adapting forest ecosystems in Central Europe to increased drought intensity.

The project is funded through the ERA-NET Sumforest Call “Sustainable forests for the society of the future” [visit the Sumforest – ForRISK project website].
